This property was purchased from the original owners in its original state. All lighting fixtures, wood surfaces, railing systems and hardware were carefully restored.
Back Yard Transformation
The back yard had become overgrown with blackberries. The basement was also mostly underground. In later pictures you will see how we radically transformed the basement into a second master suite while creating the nice outdoor patio shown here.
We maintained the general layout of the kitchen while keeping all of the mid-century lighting. The new cabinets are sapele with a quartz counter.
Kitchen to Dining Room & Deck
The pantry cabinet section was reconfigured for modern appliances while stepping back the last section to widen the opening. New concrete walls were poured to create planting beds and an outdoor dining area.
Again keeping with the mid-century feel we built a similar cabinet and kept the original vanity light. The tub was replaced with a curb-less walk in two person shower all with radiant heated floors.
Basement Master Suite
The original foundation let very little light into the unfinished basement. When completed the bedroom included a sliding shoji wall that allowed privatizing the bedroom from the sitting area.
In order to create a daylight basement we excavated a couple of hundred yards of dirt away from the foundation. This dirt was then used to level the 23,000 square foot lot.
After the excavation was completed we cut through the foundation for the new sliding doors and windows to the patio area.
Radiant Heating Boiler
As the original 1958 house already had a radiant heating system we simply updated the boiler and maintained connections to the refurbished radiators in the basement. New in floor heating was installed upstairs.
